Air Ambulance Life Flight Services
Many terms are used in conjunction with air
ambulance transport. Some of the most common are "care flights," "med
flights," "life flights" or "hospital flights."
Three Service Levels
Prior to making flight arrangements, AASI’s medical flight crew will
consult with the patient’s physician, evaluate the patient’s medical
condition as it relates to air travel and determine the best method of
medical transportation before booking a flight. Arrangements are made
based upon medical necessity. AASI provides three levels of air
ambulance service for domestic and international flights, depending on
the needs of the patient.
Private Medically Equipped Aircraft
Private medical jets are configured to serve as mini intensive care
units and are capable of handling basic life support (BLS), advanced
life support (ALS) and critical care patients. AASI provides the
appropriate medical staff. Medical staff can include nurses, respiratory
therapists, paramedics and physicians. All medical flights are staffed
according to each patient’s particular needs. International Commercial Stretcher
Service
AASI can transport patients using international commercial stretcher
service on commercial airlines. This service requires advanced planning.
AASI will block out rows of seats on the commercial airliner to allow
room for an FAA approved stretcher, then surround the area with a
curtain. All necessary medical staff and equipment for the flight is
arranged by AASI. Please note: International Commercial Stretcher
service is not available for emergency medical evacuations. Medical Escort
Service
AASI can arrange travel assistance and medical escorts for patients who
have been cleared by their physician to travel with a medical escort on
commercial flights. Medical escorts accompany patients who are stable
and able to walk onto the plane. |
